Recent Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Denny Laine brought his Moody Wings Band to the Music Box Supper Club for a night of classic rock on Friday evening.  Laine's current tour features songs from two albums, The Magnificent Moodies  from the Moody Blues and the multi-platinum selling Band On The Run from Wings.

Laine and his excellent four-piece backing backing band kicked the show off with a great cover of James Brown's "I'll Go Crazy."  After the second song, Laine quipped, "I believe you'll know the next one" as the band launched into the number one hit, "Go Now."

​

A few more early Moody Blues tunes were played that included "Stop" and "Boulevard de la Madeleine" before warming the crowd up with a few Wings songs.

​

"Again and Again and Again," "Deliver Your Children" and "Mull of Kintyre" were all played and sounded fantastic.

​

After a brief pause, Laine declared "Ok, now were gonna go for it!" as the band played the familiar sounds of the title track to Band On The Run.

​

With that, the band was off and running as they proceeded to play the entire album in its entirety.  Laine allowed each member of his band to take over the vocal duties on a song during this portion of the show and each member sang their parts expertly. 

​

Between a few of the songs, Laine would tell a story about how a song was written or a funny anecdote about Paul McCartney.

​

I really enjoy when artists play entire albums in concert.  Usually you only hear the hit songs on the radio and you forget about the great deep tracks.  Getting to hear "Bluebird," "Let Me Roll It" and "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five" in a live setting was a treat.

​

The band left the stage as Band On The Run came to a close.  However, they returned to encore with rousing versions "Spirits of Ancient Egypt" and the classic "Live And Let Die."

​

It was an excellent evening of classic rock performed by a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and his great backing band.
