Newly-minted member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Richie Sambora has just released a new five-song EP with his guitarist girlfriend Orianthi called Making History. The duo are calling themselves RSO and this is the second EP they've released this this year. Their first effort, Rise, was released this past September.
There is a little bit of everything on this record; from an old school rocker, to a couple of pop songs and even an acoustic tune. Sambora is playing inspired solos and, creatively, is at the top of his game. Orianthi's smooth vocals blend well with Sambora’s deep, gravelly voice when they sing together. She can also hold her own on the guitar.
Making History kicks off with the self-titled track and it rocks! Both guitarists trade tasty licks during the solo and it's a great way to start the record.
“Walk With Me” is an up-tempo acoustic tune that has Orianthi and Sambora trading verses.
“Together On The Outside” features Orianthi on lead vocals. It is an up-tempo pop song that has the keyboards out in front until the guitar solo. It is reminiscent of Evanescence.
“I Don’t Want To Have To Need You Now” features Sambora on lead vocals where he lays down another great guitar solo.
The EP ends with “We Are Magic.” The song starts off with Sambora on the “talk box” and, once again, he and Orianthi trade vocals.
Making History is a very good record and it’s worth checking out. I just wish there were a few more tunes to make it a full album!
