Sometimes you go to a concert not knowing what to expect.  You may not be very familiar with the band but you go in with an open mind.

On Wednesday evening in The Cambridge Room at the House of Blues, two young up and coming bands blew me away.

Mac Saturn, based out of Detroit, are out supporting their debut EP, Until The Money Runs Out.   Lead singer Carson Macc has a ton of charisma and swagger that every good front man needs.  He also has the look and style of a '70s glam band leader.

The band is also very tight and provides some '70s style grooves while still sounding fresh.  Mike Moody (lead) and Nick Barone (rhythm) are on guitar while Jive Moses (bass) and Angelo Coppola (drums) comprise the rhythm section.

From the opening chords of "Diamonds,"  I was hooked.

This band just has a presence and the music itself was a throwback to '70s rock that is very upbeat and danceable.  "Paradiso" has a "Hot Child In The City" feel to it while their latest single "Mr. Cadillac" is one of the catchiest tunes that I've heard in a while.  The band had the entire room dancing.

If you like upbeat, 70s era rock with a hint of funk and R&B, Mac Saturn is for you.

I'm glad I got to see them in The Cambridge Room because I believe the next time they come to town, they will be playing the main stage at the House of Blues.

Opening the show was another impressive youngster, Billy Tibbals.

Tibbals was born and raised in north London until he was twelve.  He then moved to California with his parents in 2014 and eventually made the rounds and caught the ear of Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes, who eventually produced his first record.

British punk influences are evident throughout his music.

Although they weren't quite as tight as Mac Saturn, the Billy Tibbals band were still a lot of fun and they have a lot of potential.

His latest single "Hollywood Baby" and the show closing "While I'm Still Young" were the highlights of his thirty-five minute set.

What a great, unexpected night of fun rock and roll.
