Billy Ocean

March 12, 2026

It's been nearly forty years since Billy Ocean has played Northeast Ohio (as far as I can tell).  He made up for lost time by playing all of the hits that he was known for in the '80s as well as a couple of surprise cover tunes.

They spry 76 year old was still in fine voice as he belted out the tunes in front of his great nine piece backing band.

"Mystery Lady," "There'll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry)" and "Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car" and the energetic crowd singing and dancing along in their seats.

The two cover songs were spot on renditions of Bob Marley's "No Woman, No Cry" and Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" which Ocean noted was his favorite singer.

Ocean told the audience that last year was the fortieth Anniversary of his song "Suddenly," which led him to ask, "Where did the time go?"  Most of Gen X that was in attendance nodded in agreement.

The main set ended with a great, upbeat song titled "Daylight" from his 2020 album One World.

Of course, Billy saved his #1 smash and Grammy award winning song "Caribbean Queen (No More Love On The Run)" for last.  Most of the audience was up on their feet singing and dancing along and people in the front rushed the stage to get a handshake and even an autograph from the '80s icon.

Let's hope that Billy doesn't wait as long to make a return appearance to NE Ohio.
