Dire Straits Legacy, featuring four former members of Dire Straits, brought the bands extensive catalog of deep cuts and hits to The Robins Theatre last night for an outstanding evening of rock and roll.

The musicianship on stage last night was incredible. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Alan Clark played the piano and organ beautifully all evening, the guitar tone of Phil Palmer was outstanding, the percussion playing of Danny Cummings was spot on and the saxophone work by Mel Collins was impeccable. However, the surprise of the evening was Marco Caviglia's guitar work and vocals. Not only is his voice is eerily similar to Mark Knopfler's but his guitar playing is as well.

The show started off with "Private Investigations" from the Love Over Gold lp. The song was an unusual choice as it is a long and slow song but it did get to showcase the musicianship of the band. The second tune, "Walk of Life" got fans up on their feet.

Other hits like "Telegraph Road" and "Romeo and Juliet" were played to perfection. However, many in the audience started to move and bob to the sounds of "Skateaway," an early hit on MTV.

Some deeper cuts also made the set like "When It Come To You" and "Setting Me Up." Lead singer Marco Caviglia could tell that those tunes were lost on this American audience and he asked everyone to get on their feet. He said "trust me!" to the fans because he knew what was coming next. The intro alone to "Sultans of Swing" had people playing air guitar in their seats. The tune turned into a fourteen minute jam.

The show closed with the three songs from the multi-platinum selling album, Brothers In Arms which included the title track, "Money For Nothing" and "So Far Away."

I never got to see Dire Straits in concert when they were touring. By seeing Dire Straits Legacy is as close as I'm going to get. And it is very close! These guys are great.
